June 1: Noon-4 p.m. Hopewell Furnace commemoration. The Hopewell Furnace, Ohio's first blast furnace, marked the dawn of the iron and steel industry in the Mahoning Valley. Speakers, refreshments, games and activities for the entire family, plus a hike to the furnace. Held at Yellow Creek Park.
June 1: 1-5 p.m. Sundays at the MetroParks Farm. Do you know that more people in the world drink goat's milk than cow's milk? To celebrate Dairy Month, you can try your hand at milking goats. Wagon rides will be given every half-hour from 1:30-4:40 p.m.
June 1-2: 10 a.m.-noon. Preschool-K. This beginner camp is geared for children ready to enter kindergarten this fall. Indoor and outdoor activities planned along with a story and craft. Campers will go on short walks to learn about nature. Registration and fee are due at Ford Nature Center by June 17. Fee: $10 resident, $15 nonresident.

June 8: 1-4 p.m. Incredible Wild Edibles. Join us for a slide presentation featuring edible native species. Then venture outside to see their growing habits and learn when to harvest. June 8: 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Metroparks Farm. Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride around the farm. Every half-hour between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
June 11: 8:30-10 a.m. Rise & amp; Bloom: Shrub Roses. Start your morning with a walk in the Gardens to admire shrub roses in bloom. Breakfast on fruit and muffins afterward while learning more about these plants. Call FRG to register. Fee: $6R, $8NR.
June 11: 7 p.m. Yellow Creek Park Concert. Polka with the Mahoning Valley Button Box Club. The concert will be moved indoors for inclement weather. Meet at the Captain John Struthers Pavillion. Lawn seating.
June 11-12: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Curious Critter Camp. Children ages 5-6 will study creepy critters and beautiful bugs through activities, crafts and hikes in this adventurous camp. Call Yellow Creek Park to register by June 9. Fee: $15R, $20NR.
June 12: 10, 10:45, or 11:30 a.m. Tales for Twos. Two-year-olds and their adult companions will experience an outdoor adventure as they search for our resident hawks and hear a story about these magnificent birds. Call Ford Nature Center to register.
June 13-14: 10-11 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. Friday, or 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Rose Petal Pictures. Everything's coming up roses at this class for children 3-5 years old accompanied by their favorite adults. Each child will be photographed with roses, decorate a picture frame with rose petals and listen to a rose story while tasting rose petal snacks. Call Fellows Riverside Gardens to register. Fee: $5.
June 14: 1:30-3 p.m. Flag Day arrangement. In honor of Flag Day, children ages 6 and up will arrange summer flowers in enameled tin mugs. The flags and fresh flowers will make this an eye-appealing gift for Father's Day. Call Fellows Riverside Gardens to register. Fee: $6.
June 14: 9:30 a.m. Morning Along the Lake. Hike the shores of Lake Cohasset and watch for wildlife along our way. Approximately 2.5 miles, moderate difficulty with inclines. Meet at Ford Nature Center.
June 14: 2-4 p.m. Watercolor for Beginners. Artist Celesta Moran will guide you through a complete floral painting of your own. All materials will be supplied. Call Ford Nature Center to register by June 7. Fee: $25.

June 15: Noon-4 p.m. Father's Day at the Mill. Bring Dad to visit Lanterman's Mill and he will be admitted free. Dads must prove their fatherhood by bringing photos of their adoring children. A scavenger hunt is planned and short walks along the boardwalk will be led at 1-3 p.m.

June 21: 10 a.m. Take a journey through the seasons with author Charles Fergus in "Thornapples." Essays such as "Hunting for Giants" and "Buffleheads and Thunder Pumpers," will entertain and educate. Meet at Ford Nature Center for this naturalist-led discussion.
June 21: 7-8:30 p.m. Summer Solstice Kayak. On the longest day of the year, we'll explore the Newport Wetlands as animals prepare for the night. Meet at East Newport Boat Launch.
June 21-22: Noon-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Mahoning Valley Rose Society Show. Entries from novice to experienced growers will highlight this American Rose Society-affiliated show.
June 22: Noon-5 p.m. Rose Festival. This family event at Fellows Riverside Gardens is centered around our national flower, the rose. Activities include children's hands-on projects, information about rose growing herbal treats, garden demonstrations and a sale of miniature rose plants. Attend the 2 p.m. lecture, "Rose Arranging Magic."
June 22: 2 p.m. Newport Wanderings. Traverse the trails of Lake Newport to look for signs of beaver and late-blooming spring wildflowers. Approximately 5 miles, medium difficulty with hills and steps. Meet at Newport Wetlands parking lot.
June 22: 1-5 p.m. Sundays at MetroParks Farm. Join 4-H members as they show their goats in preparation for the fair. Have your questions answered by the young exhibitors.

Through stories, songs, puppets and activities, campers will learn how plants and animals depend on each other. Hikes are less than one mile. June 28: Noon-4 p.m. Canoe and Kayak Expo. Kayakers of all skill levels are invited to join these escorted trips through the waters of MetroParks. Minors ages 11-17 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. A limited number of single and tandem kayaks are available. Call Ford Nature Center.
June 28: 7 p.m. "Untamed Paradise." Mad River Theater Works presents this original bicentennial play based on the true story of black pioneers who helped settle the frontier 200 years ago. Unsing music and drama, the show paints the life of brave individuals who worked to build a better tomorrow in Ohio. Held at the Morley Pavilion. Lawn seating.
