YOUNGSTOWN City council items



City council met Wednesday and:
Heard Michelle Wells of Lordstown, president of the Mahoning Valley Real Estate Investment Association, urge councilmen to report problems associated with rental properties in their wards to her association at 2901 Market St. She said her association can provide guidance concerning housing code requirements to owners of these properties.
Referred to the finance committee an ordinance that would have moved $300,000 from the park department to the minority business loan fund. Officials will look for other ways to fund the loan program.
Authorized the board of control to sell for $10 a 19-acre parcel on Division Street to City Concrete, where it is now. The company will retain 27 full-time employees there.
Authorized the board of control to waive building permit fees for Cantar Corp., which is investing $250,000 to build new office space at its location on Performance Place in Youngstown Performance Park off Poland Avenue.
Authorized the board of control to waive building permit fees for Exal Corp., which is investing $1.3 million to build 45,000 square feet of new warehouse space at its location on Performance Place in Youngstown Performance Park.
Authorized the board of control to waive building permit, water and sewer tap-in fees for the Hope VI revitalization project at Westlake Terrace.
Authorized the board of control to sell for $10 a five-acre parcel of land at the Ohio Works Industrial Park to SSD Distribution Systems, a health-care product distribution firm, which will build a new building there and relocate 62 jobs here from New Castle and Cleveland.
Repealed a 1954 law that limited parking to two hours on the west side of Milton Avenue from Mahoning to Mayfield avenues.
Changed a clerk-timekeeper position in the street department from full time to part time.
Reappointed Harry Johnson III to another two-year term on the board of directors of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District.
Congratulated Donald Ells of West Warren Avenue on his team's winning the state senior volleyball championship and wished him success in the National Senior Games on June 2-8 in Hampton Roads, Va.
