Power outages hit 3 areas of Mahoning Valley

YOUNGSTOWN -- Ohio Edison experienced three significant power outages Tuesday evening, each with its own cause.
The first outage began at 6:07 p.m. and affected 829 customers along Mahoning Avenue between Meridian Road and state Route 46 in Austintown, including many businesses.
Power to half of those customers was restored by 8:30 p.m., and to the remainder at 10:22 p.m., said Paul Harkey, Ohio Edison division manager.
The Austintown outage was caused by failure of an underground line serving a restaurant, he said, adding that he didn't have more specific information.
An additional 803 customers lost power between 7:24 and 8:29 p.m. due to a car's hitting a utility pole at state Route 534 and U.S. Route 62 in Damascus, Harkey said. Power was out along U.S. Route 62 between Route 534 and Seacrist Road.
A windstorm knocked out power to 330 customers in the Kinsman area at 7:45 p.m., and these customers were still without power late Tuesday.
