Judge releases inmate convicted of sex with minor

YOUNGSTOWN -- A judge who sentenced a 21-year-old Youngstown man to 30 days in jail for what she described as disgusting behavior let him out after he served two weeks.
Joel D. Martinez, 21, of South Jackson Street, was sentenced by Judge Maureen A. Cronin of Common Pleas Court on May 6 to 30 days in the Mahoning County jail for unlawful sexual contact with a minor.
Martinez, a married man with two children, admitted he had consensual sex with a 15-year-old girl, who was the daughter of one of his friends, in a local motel in October.
At the sentencing, Judge Cronin told Martinez: "You ruined that young girl's life."
The Ohio Adult Parole Authority had recommended the judge place Martinez on probation and not give him any jail time. Judge Cronin sentenced Martinez to 30 days in jail and placed him on probation for two years.
Martinez's attorney requested the judge reconsider the sentence, which she did Tuesday. Judge Cronin released Martinez and ordered him to begin serving his two years' probation immediately.
