Jackson-Milton shuts out Lordstown, 7-0



NORTH JACKSON -- Jackson-Milton High senior Corey Velk tossed a three-hit shutout, as the Bluejays won their sixth straight sectional title, defeating Lordstown 7-0 Monday.
Velk (19-6) tied the school's single-season record for wins, held by Heather Loomis. Velk, who struck out five of the first seven batters, also had three hits, including a double.
Jayne Fenton had three singles and Lynsey Kosa had two hits and two RBIs for the Bluejays, who play Windham Thursday in a district semifinal at Lakeview.
Erica Gibson had two hits for Lordstown.
Regular season
YOUNGSTOWN -- Maureen Cearfoss threw a three-hit shutout, striking out five, to lead Ursuline to a 5-0 victory over Columbiana.
Courtney Davidson and Staci Ziobert each had a double and a single for the Irish (18-10). Cearfoss, Jenna Vrabel and Ashley Siembieda each added two hits.
For Columbiana (20-5), Whitney Goist had two hits.
