Tri-T (Pony ages 13-14)
Boardman Cole Valley 21, Columbiana 16 -- Mark Planey, Dan Janovic and Nick Schiavoni combined to pitch the eight-inning victory. Bob Bovara went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and triple, while Ryan James was 3-for-5 and had a walk.
Greenwood Chevy 3, Campbell Red 2 -- Doug Hurdley led Greenwood with two hits and three RBIs. Marc Lutz had three hits. Mike Prachak struck out eight batters in the three innings he pitched.
Salem Smile Wright 6, Struthers Gridiron 5 -- Chad Dotson scored the winning run in the ninth inning when Cory Rickman had three of his six strikeouts in relief of starter Brandon Holland, who went four. Derek Ball, Joel Melnick, Zach Carlisle had two hits apiece, while Sean McKee homered. For Struthers, Mike Baron, Matt Wilson, Ryan Stanko and Aaron Young had two hits apiece while Randall Yecchio had a home run.
Canfield Southeastern Equipment 9, Austintown Armstrong Cable 2 -- D.J. Haurin had three hits, Joey Carbon and Patrick Bellish had two apiece and Bellish and Dave Nash combined for a two-hitter. For Austintown, Shane Price and Ben Ziegler each had a hit.
Babe Ruth (ages 14-15)
Rondinelli's 7, Astros 2 -- Cory Collins pitched a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts, while Matt Katich and Joe Iacobucci paced the offense. Matt Bable threw a 10-strikeout complete game for Astros.
Rondinelli's 10, Central Optical 5 -- Anthony Brunetti threw a complete-game five-hitter with seven strikeouts. Joe Iacobucci and Cory Collins led the offense. Ken Wosenowski led Central with two hits.
Babe Ruth (age 13)
Line Drive 5, Rondinelli 4 -- Dan Kubala and Joe Strawinski combined on the win. Jon Tatarka, Kubala, Tyler Amendola and Kevin Mills each had one hit. Morales and Nesbitt each had two hits for Rondinelli.
Line Drive 6, Astros 1 -- Scott Smith, Dean Porter and Mike Popio combined on the pitching win. Popio and Tyler Amendola each had two hits.
Rondinelli 4, Hubbard 0 -- Dan Banna pitched a complete game, while Chris Deinert, Cory Nesbitt and Andy Zunic paced the offense. Cory Hitt had three hits for Hubbard.
Line Drive 7, Howland 6 -- Mike Popio had three hits and Jon Tatarka had two to pace an 11-hit attack. Popio also got the win. Jon Brady had two hits for Howland.
Line Drive 7, Hubbard 0 -- Scott Smith and Dean Porter combined to pitch a three-hit shutout. Mike Popio had three hits for the winners.
Hubbard 7, Howland 2 -- Corey Hitt and Frank Palestro had two hits each, while John Madeline got the win.
Rondinelli 14, Howland 1 -- Nesbitt had four hits including a home run and triple, while Marc Gorvet, Jason Ferguson, Zunic and Deinert had two hits apiece.
Hubbard 10, Astros 0 -- Madeline pitched a one-hitter, Hitt had three hits including a triple and Palestro and Marc Kanetsky had two hits apiece.
Howland 6-11, Steubenville 5-0.
SOFTBALL
14-under (fastpitch)
Valley Sting -- won six straight games to claim the Grand Slam ASA tournament in North Canton. The Sting beat Wolfpack (Massillon), 2-1, behind Markie Pozzuto of Mecca pitching a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. A two-run single in the fifth by Kari Thompson of Boardman provided the go-ahead run. Fowler's Caitlyn Youngs had a four-hitter and Allie Patton of Poland had a triple and single to pace Sting's 3-0 win over Ohio Ice-Philen (Akron). Poland's Ashley Conger, Thompson and Patton had two hits apiece in Sting's 8-2 win over the Rattlers-Gore (Wadsworth). In a 3-1 win over Rattlers-Hopkins, Youngs tossed a six-hitter and Patton broke open the game late with a triple and single. Pozzuto's two-hitter paved the way for Sting's 5-0 win over Pittsburgh Freedom. In the championship game, the Sting beat Grand Slam (Canton), 5-0. Patton had three hits.
