YOUNGSTOWN -- Police received a report of two people in a car flashing guns, and other complaints involved loud car stereos, after Wilson High School prom events about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Police responded and stopped a number of vehicles for loud music and other offenses. The car with the reported weapons wasn't located.
OCCHA plans honors
YOUNGSTOWN -- OCCHA, the city's primary social service agency serving the Hispanic community, will honor Puerto Rican professionals and business people for their achievements. The event will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana's headquarters at 3660 Shirley Road. It is sponsored by the Ohio Arts Council, National Latino Council on Alcohol and Tobacco, and OCCHA's Hispanic Heritage Committee. Speakers will be Rafael Rodriguez and Sonia Troche, both with the Puerto Rican Federal Affairs Administration. The dinner is $8, and reservations are required by calling (330) 781-1808.
Water workshop planned
POLAND -- A workshop to train volunteers in stream water quality monitoring will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 31 at Village Hall. This workshop marks the beginning of the water watcher volunteer stream monitoring project, in which volunteer teams from local businesses and organizations donate about two hours every three months to monitor local stream water quality. First aid, CPR classes
YOUNGSTOWN -- The National Safety Council, Northern Ohio Chapter, will conduct classes in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation Wednesday at the chapter office, 25 E. Boardman St. Standard CPR for adults, infants and children will be offered from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and standard first aid instruction will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for one course or $40 for both. Advance registration is required by noon Monday by calling (330) 747-8657.
Roads to close for run
YOUNGSTOWN -- East and West Glacier drives and part of Price Road in Mill Creek Park will be closed from 8-10 a.m. Saturday for the YMCA Memorial Five-Mile Run. During this event, visitors may enter Fellow Riverside Gardens only via McKinley Avenue.
'Gamma Gal' workshop
WARREN -- A workshop, "Understanding Ophelia/Raising a Gamma Gal," will take place June 18 at JFK High School with speakers who have experience in family and child studies. The hazing involving Illinois high school students has made the issues to be presented timely. The workshop is organized through the Trumbull County Medical Society Alliance, Warren City Schools, Trumbull County Schools, Notre Dame Schools of Warren and Sts. Peter and Paul.
