Performances to benefit equine program

FREDONIA, Pa. -- Royal Lipizzan Stallions will star in three performances at the Sundance Arena, Fredonia Road, to benefit Bright Futures Farm, a nonprofit organization formed to rescue unwanted horses.
Show times are 7 p.m. June 6 and 2 p.m. June 7 and 8.
In the United States, possibly all the Lipizzans in existence live on a 200-acre ranch in Florida belonging to Colonel Ottomar Herrmann.
The original animals that his descended from were smuggled from Europe by Colonel Ottomar Herrmann Sr. during World War II.
The escape was recounted in the Walt Disney movie "Miracle of the White Stallions," starring some of Herrmann's horses.
They now tour the country performing benefits for local nonprofit organizations.
In the show
A typical show includes the horses performing such feats as: All Airs Above the Ground, a series of spectacular leaps and plunges originally designed to inspire terror in foot soldiers; the Pas de Trois, a drill of grace and precision performed by three stallions in unison; and a complex Military Quadrille consisting of six to eight stallions working intricate patterns.
An informative narrative throughout the presentation recounts the history and training of both horses and riders.
Tickets for the Fredonia performances can be bought at McDonald's in Slippery Rock, or by contacting the Sundance Arena at (724) 475-3276 or (724) 263-8628, or Bright Futures Farm at (814) 827-8270.
