KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Frank Catalanotto hit a tiebreaking bases-loaded triple off an angry Jason Grimsley with two outs in the eighth inning Saturday night to lead the Toronto Blue Jays over the Kansas City Royals 7-4.
Kansas City has lost four of its last five games and is 8-14 following a 16-3 start. The Royals have held a share of first place since opening day, but their AL Central lead was cut to a half-game over Minnesota, the defending division champion.
With the score 3-all, Vernon Wells led off the eighth with an infield single off Grimsley (1-3). Two outs later, pinch-hitter Greg Myers walked and Orlando Hudson hit a slow roller to second. First-base umpire Gerry Davis called Hudson safe on a close play, and Kansas City players argued.
Catalanotto then tripled to right-center and scored on Chris Woodward's single off D.J. Carrasco for a 7-3 lead.
Grimsley jawed at Davis after the triple, then glared at the umpire when walking to the dugout. Grimsley ran back onto the field and went nose to nose with Davis before he was restrained by teammates, and tossed a Gatorade bucket onto the field before leaving the dugout.
Desi Relaford hit an RBI double in the bottom half off Albie Lopez. Cliff Politte, the third Toronto pitcher, got three straight outs for his fifth save in seven chances, completing a six-hitter.
Roy Halladay (4-2) gave up three runs -- two earned -- and five hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked none.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Joe Mays took a shutout into the seventh inning to beat Chicago for the eighth time in 10 career decisions.
Torii Hunter helped preserve the lead by robbing Carlos Lee of a potential home run in the seventh inning.
After Magglio Ordonez's infield single leading off, Lee hit a drive to straightaway center. Hunter ran back to the fence, leaped and backhanded the ball about 4 feet above the 7-foot fence.
Mays, 2-0 against Chicago this year, beat the White Sox on April 25 by holding them to four hits in seven innings.
On Saturday, Mays (4-3) allowed one run and seven hits in 62/3 innings, allowing consecutive two-out singles to Paul Konerko, Joe Crede and Miguel Olivo in the seventh.
J.C. Romero relieved with the bases loaded and retired D'Angelo Jiminez on a routine fly ball to Hunter.
Romero, LaTroy Hawkins and Eddie Guardado combined for hitless relief, with Guardado getting three outs for his nine save in nine chances. Chicago has lost the first two of this three-game series.
Jon Garland (2-4) gave up two runs -- one earned -- and six hits in six innings, allowing the leadoff hitter to reach five times.

BALTIMORE -- Pat Hentgen allowed two hits in seven innings to win for the first time in two years and the Baltimore Orioles snapped a six-game losing streak.
Hentgen (1-0), who missed most of the 2001 and 2002 seasons following ligament replacement surgery in his elbow, walked four and struck out four in his third start this season.
The victory was his first since May 16, 2001, when Hentgen beat Detroit at Camden Yards. Hentgen, who went 0-4 last season after returning from the surgery, was inserted into the rotation earlier this month when Rodrigo Lopez went on the disabled list with a strained left oblique muscle.
Jeff Conine and Jerry Hairston drove in runs for the Orioles, who had been outscored 35-13 during their skid. Mike Hargrove resumed managerial duties for Baltimore following the death of his mother May 12.
