Baseball canceled
YOUNGSTOWN -- Friday's baseball games between Youngstown State and Marshall have been canceled due to poor field conditions at Cafaro Field.
The teams will play a doubleheader today beginning at 1 p.m. Game one will be a seven-inning affair while game two will be nine innings. YSU's three seniors will be honored in between games.
Student-athletesto receive degrees
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State University Athletic Department will be well represented at Saturday's YSU commencement ceremonies with 33 current and former student-athletes receiving their degrees.

Liberty's Whitesigns with BG
LIBERTY -- Liberty senior Jessica White signed a national letter of intent to run track for Bowling Green next season.
White, who earned all-Ohio honors in four events at last year's state meet, also holds the school record for career points in basketball.
Harding's Stellaheaded to Dominican
WARREN -- Warren Harding senior Danny Stella will play basketball for Ohio Dominican next season.
Stella, a four-year starter for the Raiders, averaged 13 points and five assists per game this season.
Buck's no-hitterpaces West Branch
BELOIT -- Kyle Buck pitched a no-hitter, with five strikeouts, as West Branch edged Minerva 2-1 Friday in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
The Warriors (14-6, 11-7) were held to four hits by losing pitcher Korey Waseman, but scored a run in the second inning and another in the third.
J.R. Gibson had the only extra-base hit, a double.
Frank qualifies
AUSTINTOWN -- Garrett Frank was one of nine players to qualify Tuesday in the U.S. Open Local Qualifier at StoneWater Golf Club.
Frank shot a 74 and birdied a playoff hole to qualify. He graduated from Fitch High in 1990 and the University of Akron in 1997.
Wittenberg's Dunawayleadership choice
SPRINGFIELD -- Wittenberg junior swimmer Kyle Dunaway, a Howland High graduate, has been selected to participate in the upcoming seventh annual NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference.
The conference is set up to improve leadership and communication skills. It will be held May 25-29 in Florida.

POLAND -- Rick DiMuzio scored Poland High's first run in the Bulldogs' 2-0 win over Alliance Thursday in a Division III sectional baseball tournament final. DiMuzio's name was misspelled in Friday's article on the game. He is a senior designated hitter.

College player dies
PITTSBURGH -- A college football player who jumped out of a second-story window to escape his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend has died.
Rodney Abercrombie, 23, a senior defensive back at California U. of Pennsylvania, died late Thursday after sustaining serious head injuries, California coach John Luckhardt said.
