HARTFORD -- Sharon Speedway will salute the hard work and dedication of area firefighters, police officers and EMT personnel Saturday as part of a racing-packed evening.
Fire, police and emergency personnel who show proper credentials at the gate will be admitted free and have the chance to take a non-emergency flight in the STAT MedEvac helicopter.
Then, the focus will turn to racing on Quaker Steak & amp; Lube Night.
Point battles close
With nearly a quarter of Sharon Speedway's 17-week season completed, the point battles in each of the four divisions remain close, with some drivers separated by just one point.
Even though he wound up fifth in last Saturday's Sunburst Environmental Sprint division feature, Ed Lynch Jr., from Apollo, Pa., continues his hold on the division's point lead.
Rock Creek, Ohio's Jarod Larson finished behind Lynch in last week's feature and remains 29 points behind him.
With his first feature victory of the season, Youngstown's Jack Sodeman Jr. moved into the third position in the point standings.
Rasey in top spot
In the Gibson-Governor Insurance Modified division, Southington's Jim Rasey remains in the top spot after winning his second feature of the season.
Del Rougeux, from Frenchville, Pa., who finished runner-up to Rasey, holds onto the second position in the point standings. Sharon Speedway co-owner and Hartford racing legend Lou Blaney took over the third position in the points with a fifth-place feature.
Reigning Coy Brothers Trucking E-Mod division champion Carl McKinney, of Cranberry Twp., Pa., holds onto a slim one-point lead in the overall standings after turning in a sixth-place run.
Close behind is Columbiana's Jeff Rudrick, who, for the second week in a row, chalked up a third-place feature finish. Richard Stiffler, from Niles, finished last week's main event in the fourth spot and jumped up a position in the point standings to third.
Russ Kapalin, of Jefferson, continues to sit atop the City Disposal Services Pure Stock division point standings after posting a second-place finish.
Dapolito is second
Boardman's Steve Dapolito jumped from fourth to second in the standings with a seventh-place showing. Bill Hanna, of Jamestown, Pa., remains in the third slot in the points after coming home ninth.
