TOLEDO -- Brandon Caipen hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to highlight a four-run inning, as Youngstown State rallied from a 6-3 deficit to beat Toledo 7-6 Wednesday.
Brian Boone hit his first career home run to bring YSU (25-25) within two runs.
Toledo (20-27) scored twice in the first and led 4-0 in the fourth.
YSU's 25 victories are the most in coach Mike Florak's five years and the most since 1997.
Softball
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State junior Amanda Berry and freshman Kelly Murphy were named to the 2003 Great Lakes All-Region second team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Berry, the Horizon League's player of the year, was second on the team with a .318 batting average, while Murphy, the league's pitcher of the year, set a school season record with 22 victories.

Miller qualifies
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS -- Mill Creek Golf Course's director of golf, Dennis Miller, was one of nine players to qualify Tuesday in the U.S. Open Local Qualifier at StoneWater Golf Club.
Miller, the former Ohio Open champion, shot a 1-over-par 73 to earn a berth in the sectional qualifier June 2 at Kirtland Country Club.
Eight other area golfers failed to qualify, which took a score of 74 or better. They were John Hamarik (76), John Zarlenga (80), Jon Jones (81), Dan Metzendorf (83), Mike Shulas (84), Steve Mangin (86), Andy Santor (86) and George Bellino (93).
Mooney's Babyakto play at W & amp;J
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mike Babyak, kicking specialist at Cardinal Mooney High, will continue his football career at Washington and Jefferson College.

BOWIE, Md. -- Ryan Church homered twice to lead the Akron Aeros to a 13-3 win over the Bowie Baysox on Wednesday night in the Eastern League.
Another executive leaves Penguins
PITTSBURGH -- Mike Lee, formerly the Pittsburgh Penguins' vice president of properties and business development, has left the organization.
Lee's responsibilities included the team's Web site, merchandise sales and special projects.
Pirates' Reese out
PITTSBURGH -- Second baseman Pokey Reese will be lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates until mid-July and maybe until August with a torn ligament in his left thumb.
Reese was injured sliding Tuesday night against Houston -- coincidentally, as a pinch runner after not starting the game because of a lengthy slump. Reese is hitting .215 with one homer and 12 RBIs in 37 games.
Reese was to have surgery today to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament and will be out nine-to-12 weeks. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list, but the Pirates did not immediately replace him on their 25-man roster.

NEW YORK -- Annika Sorenstam will get more TV coverage at the Colonial than Tiger Woods ever got on the PGA Tour.
USA Network announced it will provide live coverage of Sorenstam's first two rounds next week when she becomes the first woman in 58 years to compete on the PGA Tour.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson called for an investigation into the University of Alabama's hiring practices after the school chose a white head football coach over a black candidate.
Luyendyk won't race
INDIANAPOLIS -- Two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Arie Luyendyk won't race this year because of a sore back and other side effects from a crash last week.
