Steelworkers talks set to resume at Wheatland Tube Co.



WHEATLAND, Pa. -- The Wheatland Tube Co. and its striking Steelworkers will resume negotiations at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the first bargaining session since the workers went on strike April 28.
Representatives of United Steelworkers of America Local 1660 met Thursday with federal mediator Patrick Mingarelli. He has arranged for the two sides to get together Wednesday, said Dom Vadala, Local 1660 president.
The company's push for employee contributions to health-care costs and a change in pension benefits, exchanging a 401(k) savings plan for the regular fixed-benefit pension for new hires, have been the main stumbling blocks to a settlement. The union has refused to give any concessions.
