Sharpsville council OKs deal for parking lot

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Borough council will create a small municipal parking lot on land on the south side of the Walnut Street Lodge building at 40 S. Walnut St.
Council voted Wednesday to accept the land from Dr. Matthew Joseph, who is buying the site and giving it to the borough in exchange for the borough's building a 12-car parking lot.
Joseph already owns the lodge building, wants to put offices in it and needs off-street parking. A house on the lot site will be razed.
The project has a total cost of about $70,000; Joseph is putting up $40,000 of that amount. The borough will use a federal Community Development Block Grant to fund the rest.
In other business, council received a letter from South Pymatuning Township supervisors asking that they be included in future discussions involving the borough's water system.
South Pymatuning is a major customer of the water plant, and supervisors want to be involved in any discussions regarding the future of that plant.
The borough is considering replacing the old plant, selling it to a private water company and getting out of the water business, or joining a regional water authority which would take over operation of the facility.
