WARREN Trumbull's flag goes AWOL after parade
These colors won't run. Hide? Maybe.
WARREN -- Trumbull County's new flag -- dreamed up in a countywide contest, decided by committee, sewn by a crew of seamstresses -- is missing in action.
The prototype for what was to be six new county flags made its first public appearance at Statehood Day in Chillicothe, carried by state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, D-65th, and state Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, D-32nd.
At the end of the parade, the flag was to be tossed into the back of a mule-drawn wagon with all the other county flags, said planning commission director Gary Newbrough, who was charged with the flag-designing process.
But when Ross County officials started sorting through 88 county flags for the upcoming Feast of the Flowering Moon, one was missing.
Trumbull County's.
Local officials have not even seen the flag, Newbrough said. The prototype was made to help get past some trouble finding the right shade of red for the background.
'Classy'
"If it is not the right shade, it doesn't have the right effect," he said. "It makes the flag look very classy."
The flag -- for the those who have never seen it -- features an image of the courthouse superimposed over a bald eagle and a map of the state, surrounded by a circle with 24 stars, one for each township.
Corn sprouts on either side of the circle, and an arrow cutting across the background symbolizes aviation and progress.
