LIBERTY -- The new $1.35 million Liberty Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will be unveiled Sunday.
An open house at the brick building constructed on a 1.86-acre site next to the former Liberty High School at 415 Church Hill-Hubbard Road will be from 1 to 3 p.m.
The land was purchased from the Liberty school board for $65,000.
Ribbon cutting will be at 1 p.m., followed by tours and refreshments.
The 10,200-square-foot building is similar to the library's Howland branch, using slightly modified plans, said Carol Corrado, branch manager.
It replaces the branch that was located in a former women's clothing store in the Liberty Plaza since Nov. 2, 1998.
It's quite a change from the plaza location that didn't have public restrooms or drinking fountains.
There's detail in the new branch from the light-colored oak trim to its diaper-changing stations in both the women's and men's restrooms.
Corrado said the facility generated enough business to warrant a more permanent home.
"I personally think it's beautiful," said Corrado, who has worked for the library system for 12 years, four of them as branch manager.
"The people in the community have been great in making donations," Corrado said, especially in the cooking section.
Other details
The new branch will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m to 5:30 p.m. Fridays; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
It features a community room that seats 40. It's available for public meetings with its own entrance off the library lobby.
About half the branch space is designated for children.
Regularly scheduled story time will begin in the fall for preschool children age 3 to 5.
"We want to make it as easy for them as possible and encourage them to read," Corrado said. "We try to have something for everybody."
There is also a teen space for those up to age 18.
In addition, there are two study rooms and five public access computers.
An area for books with large lettering makes it easier for older patrons to read.
Baker, Bednar and Associates was the project architect, and DeSalvo Construction Co., the general contractor.
