Last year: Japan's Shigeki Maruyama won his second PGA Tour title, holding off Ben Crane by two strokes.
Last week: David Toms won the inaugural Wachovia Championship, his first victory in 20 months. He finished with a two-stroke margin after a quadruple-bogey 8 on the final hole.
Notes: Tiger Woods, the 1997 winner, is skipping the tournament to play in Germany. ... Annika Sorenstam will make her PGA Tour debut next week in the Colonial. ... Phil Mickelson won the 1996 event and lost in a playoff to Jesper Parnevik in 2000. ... Tournament host Byron Nelson is 91. He won a record 11 consecutive events in 1945..

Purse: $1.6 million. Winner's share: $240,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Friday, 5-7:30 p.m., 11 p.m.-1:30 a.m.) and CNBC (Saturday-Sunday, 6-8 p.m.).
Last year: Inaugural event.
Last week: Hale Irwin overcame a whiffed tap-in putt to win the inaugural Kinko's Classic on the second hole of a playoff with Tom Watson. The 57-year-old Irwin has a tour-record 37 victories.
Notes: The tournament replaced the TD Waterhouse Championship, won last year by Bruce Lietzke at Tiffany Greens. ... Watson, second last year in his hometown event, designed the course. ... Ed Fiori is making his second senior start. He tied for 35th last week. ... The Columbus Southern Open is next in Georgia, followed by the Music City Championship in Nashville, Tenn.
