DIV. II SOFTBALL 7th-inning run sends Poland to district
Cardinal Mooney defeated Liberty, 11-2. .
BELOIT -- With two out in the last of the seventh inning, Stephanie Russell singled home Jessie Lamport as Poland blanked West Branch 1-0 Tuesday in the Division II sectional softball tournament.
Top-seeded Poland (19-5) out-hit the Warriors (5-19) 10-4, but the teams were scoreless through six frames.
With two away, Lamport singled and went to second when Katie Naumoff singled for the third time.
Russell singled up the middle to score Lamport and send the Bulldogs to the district tournament at Hubbard High School Tuesday.
Russell and Lamport each had two hits while Mallory Conger and Steffi Graf doubled.
Mooney 11, Liberty 2
LIBERTY -- Kristin Laskowski had four hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs for the second-seeded Cardinals (16-9).
The winner of today's Chaney-Struthers game will meet Mooney in the Hubbard district Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
In a 15-hit attack, Katie Stickel added two singles and a double with three runs scored.
Gina Brunetti doubled while Petrina Morocco and Dana Palazzo each singled twice.
Liberty finished at 4-19.
Carrollton 10, Beaver Local 6
CARROLLTON -- Hannah Tiziani got the win and went 2-for-4 in a 13-hit attack.
Carrollton scored once in the top of the seventh inning to tie it 5-5, then plated five runs in the top of the eighth.
Nikki Rinko, Sarah McCoy and Alexa Smith each had three hits for Beaver Local.
