Lombardi joinsPittsburgh staff
PITTSBURGH -- Joe Lombardi, a former assistant basketball coach at La Salle, St. Bonaventure and St. Francis, Pa., was hired Tuesday to complete new Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon's staff.
Lombardi, a native of Sharon, Pa., joins fellow assistant coaches Barry Rohrssen and Pat Sandle and director of basketball operations Orlando Antigua on Dixon's staff.
Lombardi played at Kennedy Christian High School near Sharon and Youngstown State before beginning his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ohio U. He also was an assistant at Youngstown State and Indiana (Pa.) before moving into Division I.
Lombardi was at St. Francis from 1987-92, St. Bonaventure from 1992-2001 and La Salle from 2001-03.
Joanna Fergus namedto all-league team
ERIE, Pa. -- Joanna Fergus, the freshman first baseman for the Gannon College softball team from Austintown Fitch High, was selected to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team as an honorable mention.
Fergus shared the team lead in batting average .278 (40-for-144) while ranking No. 1 in RBIs (29), doubles (11), on-base percentage (.350) and fielding percentage (.991). She also scored 12 runs.
Fergus had a game-winning grand slam in Gannon's 8-4 win over Lake Superior in GLIAC Tournament.
Gannon was 28-21, including 6-7 in the GLIAC for fifth place.
The daughter of Suzanne and Andrew Fergus, Joanna is a business education major with a 2.9 grade-point average.
Boardman vaultersbreak own record
BEDFORD -- Boardman High's Allison Brager and Erika Olson combined for a pole vault of 17 feet, 6 inches, to break their school record at last weekend's Bedford Relays.
Brager and Olson set their previous record of 13-6 last year at the Ranger Relays.
Boardman compiled 68 points to take runner-up to Cleveland Collinwood (87).
Poland boostersset scramble
COLUMBIANA -- Poland All-Sports Boosters will hold a golf scramble Saturday at Copeland Hills Golf Course.
There will be a 2 p.m. shotgun start and the $70 per golfer entry fee includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner and prizes.

Leapin' Lizardsleading Seniors event
STRUTHERS -- Leapin' Lizards rolled 2,597 to lead the 31st annual Steel Valley Seniors Bowling Tournament at Holiday Bowl.
The Raiders are second with 2,558 with Amron Lanes in third with 2,537.
The tournament runs through Saturday with squad times at noon and 3 p.m.
Teams consist of four bowlers -- men, women or mixed. The tournament is open. Call (330) 755-1444.
DeJoe earnsECAC honor
CANFIELD -- Paul DeJoe, a 2001 Canfield High graduate, has been named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference all-academic ice hockey team. DeJoe was a captain for the Knights during the 2002-03 campaign, has a 3.96 grade-point average and is a psychology major.

Kohl selectedfirst team
NORTH CANTON -- Shannon Kohl, a senior centerfielder for the Walsh University softball team from Austintown Fitch High, has been selected to the All-American Mideast Conference First Team for the third straight year.
Kohl set two Walsh career records this season with 272 hits and 159 runs scored, and led the Cavaliers in batting average (.490), hits (77) and slugging percentage (.701).
Last year, she was named Walsh's first All-American.
