Murphy namedto Horizon team
CLEVELAND -- Freshman Kelly Murphy was named to the Horizon League all-tournament team after posting a 2-1 record and a 1.21 ERA, and throwing the fourth no-hitter in tournament history.
Murphy, who finished the season with a school-best 22-6 record, tossed the no-hitter in an 8-0 victory over Detroit in the first round. The North Olmsted native also picked up a 3-2 victory over UIC in the quarterfinals.
Murphy, who was named the league's pitcher of the year, also set the school record for strikeouts in a season (179).
Volleyball recruit
YOUNGSTOWN -- Janelle McDonald, a senior at Strongsville High, has signed a letter-of-intent to play volleyball at Youngstown State.
A 5-foot-5 defensive specialist, McDonald is a three-year letter winner and was picked the team's MVP last season.
"Janelle is a tremendous addition to our program," YSU coach Joe Conroy said. "Her passing ability is something that will benefit the program immediately."

Slippery Rockhosts tournament
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The NCAA Div. II North Atlantic Regional baseball tournament will be at Slippery Rock University beginning Thursday.
The Rock (44-10) is the top seed and will face Kutztown Univ. (24-13) in the first round at 7 p.m.
First marathon
HUBBARD -- Keith Davis, 42, a resident of Hubbard Township, ran his first marathon, the City of Pittsburgh, earlier this month.
Davis ran a time of 4:01.19, a pace of 9:15 per mile.
Toth athlete of yearat D'Youville College
BUFFALO, NY -- Freshman softball pitcher Jenn Toth, a graduate of South Range High, was named the D'Youville College Female Athlete of the Year.
She is the first freshman athlete to win the award.
Toth led the Spartans to a 10-win improvement from the previous season and was named the league's pitcher of the year.
She set school records for wins (13), ERA (1.51), strikeouts (101) and strikeouts per seven innings (14.43).
Correction
Cliff Panezich had three triples in Ursuline's victory over Brookfield last week. The hits were incorrectly credited to another player.

USOC unveilsnew logo for 2004
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Spurred by the success of its brand at the Salt Lake City Games, the U.S. Olympic Committee unveiled a new logo that will be used for the Athens Games.
The logo, which features a blue, green and red olive wreath, will be the first for U.S. athletes in a summer Olympics. The logo will be printed on USOC merchandise and marketing materials leading up to and during the 2004 Games.
