4 people injured in chain-reaction accident

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Police said four people were injured in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on the Shenango Valley Freeway near Smith Avenue.
Police said Paulette Lawler, 59, of Zahniser Road, Mercer, was westbound on the freeway at 6:30 p.m. Monday when she failed to slow for a line of traffic and ran into the rear of a vehicle driven by Linda Taylor, 34, of the Mercer-West Middlesex Road, West Middlesex.
The impact pushed Taylor's vehicle into the back of a vehicle driven by Patricia A. Carpec, 38, of Ormond Avenue, Sharon, which then hit the rear of a vehicle driven by Sherry Bayuk, 40, of Chrysann Drive, Girard, Ohio.
Lawler was in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, in stable condition this morning. Taylor and two children in her car, Logan Taylor, 2, and Matthew Taylor, 4, were treated at UPMC Horizon.
