Plant manager to receive YSU honorary doctorate
Midgley was promoted to Lordstown plant manager two years ago.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Maureen E. Midgley of Poland, plant manager of General Motors Lordstown, will receive an honorary doctor of science degree at Youngstown State University's spring commencement Saturday.
Nearly 1,100 students will receive associate, bachelor's and master's degrees at the ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m. in Beeghly Center on the YSU campus.
Brenda Chadambura, who will graduate with a bachelor's degree of science in international business, will serve as student commencement speaker. Chadambura came to YSU from Zimbabwe, South Africa.
Midgley came to Lordstown in 1999 and was promoted to plant manager in 2001. The Lordstown plant is the largest single-line assembly plant in the world with a work force of 4,500, making it one of the Mahoning Valley's largest employers.
Background
Originally of Kirkwood, Mo., Midgley earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Her master's degree of science in manufacturing management is from the GMI Engineering and Management Institute in Michigan. She also completed Harvard Business School's senior executive program.
Her community service includes serving on the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber's Athena Board of Directors, Youngstown Business Incubator's Board of Directors and the YSU Strategic Planning Committee. She is the leader of GM's environmental community outreach program.
