3 municipalities get state grants for park projects



NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Ellwood City, Slippery Rock and Shenango Township will receive Growing Greener grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
State Rep. Frank LaGrotta of Ellwood City, D-10th, said that the money is coming from the department's Community Conservation Partnerships Program. He said that:
UEllwood City will receive $49,000 to acquire 156 acres adjacent to the Ellwood City Nature Trail and the Connoquenessing Creek to be used for trails and natural habitat protection.
UShenango Township will receive $75,000 to renovate Shenango Township Community Park.
USlippery Rock will receive $40,000 to develop a multipurpose athletic field.
LaGrotta said Growing Greener provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and nonprofit organizations for the development, planning and acquisition of parks, recreation and conservation and greenways projects.
