YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior shortstop Ty Furino was named to the Version Academic second-team All-District IV team Thursday.
Furino has played in 41 games, starting 32. He's hitting .273 with 30 hits, 17 runs scored and seven stolen bases.

* Girard's Tom Williams had a double in the Indians' 6-0 win over Hubbard on Wednesday. Thursday's story named the wrong player.

HARTFORD -- Fans buying a ticket to watch the racing at Sharon Speedway Saturday may be taking their first step toward attending the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Winston Cup race later this month.
Fans in attendance on May 10 can register to win one of three trips being given away by Anderson Coach and Travel in Greenville, Pa.
The grand prize by the motorcoach company is a trip for two to the Coca-Cola 600, the longest NASCAR Winston Cup race of the season, May 23-25 at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
On-track activity during Jasper Engines and Transmissions Night Saturday includes racing in four divisions.
Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate.
Zupko first team
TWINSBURG -- Erin Zupko, a junior outfielder for the Muskingum College softball team from Liberty High, has been selected to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference first team.
Zupko entered this week with a .351 batting average (40-for-114), tied for 14th in the OAC. She had 16 RBIs, 19 runs scored and six doubles.
Zupko made the All-OAC second team in 2002, and the All-OAC first team in 2001.
Muskingum is 39-3 overall and 19-0 in the OAC this season. The Muskies won their sixth straight conference title and 13th overall.
Muskingum played host to the NCAA Division III Central Regional today through Sunday.
Golf scramble
COLUMBIANA -- The Buick Scramble will conduct a local championship at Copeland Hills Golf Course May 17.
The event is open to four-person teams with certified USGA Handicap Indexes.
The winning team from the local championship will advance to Northern Ohio PGA Sectional Championships in August. Two winning teams from each PGA Sectional will advance to the National Championships Oct. 8-12 at Grande Lakes Orlando (Fla.)
