Meyer Lecture series
BOARDMAN -- "To Everything There Is A Season: Sanctification of Time" is the theme of the annual Rabbi Samuel Meyer Memorial Lecture. The free ecumenical program is at 7:30 p.m. May 29 at Boardman United Methodist Church. A reception will follow.
The speakers are Rabbi Stanley J. Schachter of the B'nai Jeshurun Congregation in Pepper Pike, Ohio; the Rev. Nick Mager Jr., pastor of First United Presbyterian Church in Youngstown; and Monsignor George Appleyard, pastor of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church in Austintown.
Rabbi Schachter has been rabbi emeritus of B'nai Jeshurun Congregation since 2000, where he had served as senior rabbi since 1987. He joined the faculty of Cleveland College of Jewish Studies in 2001.
The Rev. Mr. Mager earned a doctorate in ministry from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary focusing on Jewish- Christian relations. He has served at churches in Salem; Sharon, Pa.; and Clarksburg, W.Va.
Monsignor Appleyard is a priest of the Eparchy of St. Josephat in Parma, Ohio, which serves area Ukrainian Catholics. He has published many articles explaining the Byzantine spiritual legacy.
The Rabbi Meyer Memorial Lecture Series honors the late leader of Temple El Emeth in Liberty who was instrumental in creating the Jewish-Christian Dialogue series in Youngstown.
Comfort Ministries program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Comfort Ministries, which helps families of homicide victims, will have a seminar "Its a New Season" with lunch and a hat show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. The speakers will include Dawn Powell, a social worker, and Lynn Phillips, a funeral director, who helped start the ministry. The cost is $10. Call L.E. Black, Phillips & amp; Holden Funeral Home.
Concert and speakers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will have a pre-Mother's Day concert at 6 p.m. today with Rev. Darryl Adams and Erwin Adams. The concert will feature The Triplets, Bee Bee Robbins and others. The church will have a Mother's Day program at 4 p.m. Sunday.
The church will also have speakers at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and two services at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. May 18.

GIRARD -- All mothers will be honored when Girard First United Methodist Church has a Mother's Day celebration at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

WARREN -- Holy Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church will have a Mother's Day dinner at noon Sunday.

YOUNGSTOWN -- New Grace Baptist Church will have a Mother's Day program at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Jonathan E. McCottry of Hallandale, Fla., a pastor of two Seventh-day Adventist churches in Miami, Fla., is the speaker.
Sunday concert set

Ecumenical service
CAMPBELL -- The Campbell Ecumenical Council of Churches will have its annual spring service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church. The theme is "Together We Are Strong." The speaker will be the Rev. Leslie Hawkins, a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, a member of the U.S. Air Force and pastor of a church in Alliance.
85th anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN -- New Hope Baptist Church will celebrate its 85th anniversary May 19. At 11 a.m., the speaker will be the Rev. Lonnie Simon, pastor emeritus of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Youngstown. At 3:30 p.m., the guests will be Rev. Dr. Morris W. Lee and the congregation of the Third Baptist Church. The theme for the day is "How Firm A Foundation."
Akron pastor to speak
YOUNGSTOWN -- Union Baptist Church will celebrate its eighth pastoral anniversary at 6 p.m. next Saturday. The Rev. Kenneth Paramore of United Baptist Church in Akron will speak at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Centennial luncheon

Seniors' retreat offered

Youth carwashes
BOARDMAN -- The New Springfield Church of God's youth group will wash cars from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds to attend the denomination's international youth convention in July in Nashville, Tenn.

Missionaries to speak
ASHTABULA -- Missionaries Gordon and Bee Bialik will speak at 7 p.m. May 21 at First Assembly of God. They have helped to establish Bible colleges in Portugal, Cameroon, Angola and Russia.
Williamsport Chapel opens
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Williamsport Chapel near Beaver Creek State Park is resuming services starting at 9 a.m. each Sunday through Sept. 21.
Emergency assistance
BOARDMAN -- Catholic Charities Regional Agency was given a $90,000 emergency assistance check Wednesday from the Diocese of Youngstown to help families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties with food, shelter, clothing, utilities and medication. The diocese requested that $30,000 be earmarked for each county served by the regional agency.
