HONORS Goodwill employees and businesses recognized
Awards for exceptional performance and support were presented.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries held its annual Goodwill Awards Banquet May 8 at Mr. Anthony's in honor of employees for exceptional performance during the past year.
Held in conjunction with National Goodwill Industries Week, the event began with a welcome address by Paul McFadden, president of the board of trustees, followed by the invocation.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the employee and community awards by Michael McBride, executive director of Goodwill.
The following were singled out for recognition:
UBusiness provider: 910 Airlift Wing, Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
UContributor of the Year: Mrs. George Alfred.
USpecial project: United Way Day of Caring.
USpecial service: Oxford String Quartet, Irv Lev.
UAmbyopia volunteer: Darlene Webster.
UYoungstown Radio Reading Service volunteer: Charles Creager
UJunior Group volunteer: Tina Kinnick
UExceptional performance: Maria Bralich, George Melia, William Wright, Roberta King-Wyatt, Curel Laney, Darlene Howells, Deidra Parker, Richard Rudy, Gregory Smith, Karen Hansen and Deana Smeltzer.
USupervisor of the Year: Nancy Frazier.
UGraduate of the Year: Jonathan Zizzo.

About the group
Goodwill Industries serves individuals with physical, mental and emotional disabilities, as well as those with such welfare dependency as illiteracy, homelessness or lack of work experience, and helps to prepare them for the demands of the workplace by providing a wide range of training courses for in-demand jobs. In 2002, Goodwill Industries launched its 21st Century Initiative to help 20 million people enter the workforce and move up the career ladder by 2020.
