Freshman Kelly Murphy pitched a no-hitter as Youngstown State defeated Detroit 8-0 in the opening game of the Horizon League softball tournament today in Cleveland.
The Penguins (35-15-1) were scheduled to return at 5 p.m. today to face the winner of Cleveland State and Illinois-Chicago in a winner's bracket semifinal round game.
Murphy had six strikeouts to record her 21st victory and sixth shutout of the season.
Tiffany Patteson went 2-for-3, with a triple and double, and two RBIs, and Lacy Reichart had a double and scored three runs.
