NHL Wild win forces Game 7
The Canucks will be at home for tonight's series finale.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Wild have overcome a lot of adversity for a 3-year-old team making its postseason debut.
Avoiding elimination for the fifth time this postseason, the Wild beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 Wednesday night to force a seventh game in the second-round series.
"We've been able to dig ourselves back to ground level, but we've got one more big scoop left," said Andrew Brunette, who scored two goals.
Another victory over the Canucks will make the Wild the first team in NHL history to rally from two 3-1 series deficits to win in the same playoff year.
The deciding Game 7 is tonight in Vancouver, with the winner advancing to face the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the Western Conference finals.
"We have to play a full 60 minutes," Canucks coach Marc Crawford said. "Our guys are ready to do that. Better we made a mistake [Wednesday night] and not [tonight]."
Roloson saves 30
Dwayne Roloson made 30 saves for Minnesota, who also got goals from Darby Hendrickson, Antti Laaksonen and seldom-used Lubomir Sekeras.
Cliff Ronning had three assists, and Marian Gaborik added two for the Wild, who went 3-for-5 on the power play.
Minnesota scored 12 goals the last two games and is an NHL-leading 14-for-55 with the man advantage during the postseason.
"The penalties got us in trouble," Crawford said. "We just have to be more determined to kill them off."
These rivals have played a very physical series, but the Canucks -- who took eight penalties -- didn't get away with any rough stuff Wednesday.
"They deserve it," Wild coach Jacques Lemaire said. "We look at tapes, too. I know a lot of times we do complain, but when we complain we have something to back it up."
