MCDONALD Council moves to renew pact of village attorney

The legislation would abolish a three-tier pay system for the finance clerk.
McDONALD -- The village attorney's contract is one step closer to being renewed.
Council approved 5-1 Wednesday the second of three readings of an ordinance to retain William Roux for another two-year term as solicitor.
Councilman Michael O'Brien cast the dissenting vote.
The ordinance will employ Roux as legal representative for the village from June 1 through May 31, 2005, and grant him a 3 percent raise each of those years.
Mayor Jim Border said before the vote at last month's meeting he was against the renewal, citing possible conflicts of interest involving Roux and contractors who did paving work in the village years ago.
Pay tier legislation
Also at the meeting, council passed the first reading of legislation abolishing the pay tier system for the finance clerk.
Office Manager Charlene McCracken said the legislation calls for small increases after six months and then a year.
The new standard would establish a flat rate of $1,100 for the job, the highest of the tiers.
Rocco Tondo was appointed by council to the position in March after legislation trying to combine that part-time job with the part-time treasurer's position died on the floor for a lack of action.
