YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church will host Yvonne Pointer Triplett of Cleveland at its Mother's Day morning worship service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Pointer Triplett has garnered national attention for her efforts at empowering families who have been victimized by crime. Her oldest daughter, Gloria, was abducted, assaulted and murdered in December 1984. Gloria's murder remains unsolved. Pointer Triplett is an author whose motto is, "If it is to be, it is up to me."
Ukrainian bishop named
CARNEGIE, Pa. -- Bishop-elect Richard Stephen Seminack will be consecrated June 4 in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Chicago, Ill. He has been named bishop of the Diocese of St. Nicholas in Chicago for Byzantine Ukrainians, which encompasses all of the United States west of Ohio. Monsignor Seminack, 61, was ordained in 1967. He studied at the Oriental Institute in Rome and was awarded a degree in Eastern Canon Law in 1968. From 1969 to 1970 he was assistant pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Youngstown and St. Anne Church in Austintown. He has held a number of positions in the Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma, Ohio, which includes Ohio. In 1984, he was appointed monsignor and named the pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Carnegie, Pa.
Flame Fellowship meets
BOARDMAN -- The Rev. Carol Hutchins, women's pastor at Victory Christian Center, will be the guest speaker at the Flame Fellowship Meeting at noon May 19. The meeting will be at the Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park. A $7 buffet luncheon is at 11 a.m. Make reservations by calling (330) 729-0832 by Friday. Dialogue group meets
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anthony Dragani of Eternal Word Television Network's Eastern Churches Forum will speak on "The Role of Patriarchs" at the Youngstown-Warren Chapter of the Society of St. John Chrysostom. The Catholic/Orthodox dialogue group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church.
Bicentennial benefit
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- As part of its bicentennial celebration, Westfield Presbyterian Church will present traditional and contemporary Christian music in "Praise to the Lord" at 7 p.m. May 18. Donations will benefit Project HOPE, an outreach ministry of the Mohawk area churches. Call (724) 667-7045.
Signature Sound performs
LIBERTY -- The southern gospel quartet Signature Sound Quartet will perform at 7 p.m. today at Church Hill United Methodist Church. The group consists of tenor Ernie Haase, lead singer Shane Dunlap, baritone Doug Anderson and bass Tim Duncan. Prayer conference
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rev. Rodney Maiden of Providence Baptist Church in Cleveland will be the featured speaker during a prayer conference at Rising Star Baptist Church. The conference is at 6:30 p.m. Friday and at 8 a.m. next Saturday. A youth prayer conference will be offered for teens 13-18.
75th anniversary
WARREN -- Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish is continuing its celebration of its 75th anniversary by conducting tours of the church and an open house in the school and rectory from 1 to 5 p.m. May 18. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided.
