FARRELL Woman jailed in robbery
FARRELL, Pa. -- A Darr Avenue woman was in Mercer County Jail on $100,000 bond, accused of forcing her way into an elderly woman's home and then assaulting and robbing her.
Police said Ruby Pierson Jones, 45, was picked up at her home around 4:45 a.m. Monday, about two hours after the assault.
Police said the victim, who lives on Cathedral Drive, answered a knocking at her door around 4:30 a.m. without first looking to see who was there. Jones pushed her way in, police said.
The victim told Jones to leave, but Jones refused and demanded money, police said.
When the victim said she had none, Jones ran into the woman's bedroom and took money from a purse. She then assaulted the resident, telling her that she had to kill her because the victim could identify her, police said.
The victim struggled and screamed, prompting Jones to flee, police said.
The resident was treated at Sharon Regional Health System for minor injuries. A witness identified Jones as the assailant, police said.
Jones was arrested and arraigned on charges of robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and making terroristic threats.
She was arraigned before District Justice Henry Russo, who ordered her held pending a hearing.
