FARRELL Council mulls development of former park

FARRELL, Pa. -- A commercial recreation development may be built at the former Farrell City Park on Sharon-New Castle Road.
The 10-acre park hasn't been used as a municipal recreational site since Dr. Robert Multari took an option on the land for commercial development in 1993.
Dr. Multari built some medical offices and a pain-management center on two acres of the park, spending about $2.5 million in the process, but the city later took back the remaining eight acres, trying to market it for other commercial projects.
City council is looking at a development proposal to put a commercial recreation facility on those eight acres.
Council reviewed the proposal during an executive session Monday and is negotiating a sale price with the prospective developer, said LaVon Saternow, city manager.
She declined to identify the developer or reveal the scope of the project but said council is expected to make a decision on the plan by the end of the month. The land sale could come up for a council vote at its May 22 meeting, she said.
