Doing things just right in your beloved garden

Doing things just rightin your beloved garden
Sure, you love your garden. But do you love it too much? Are you overdoing it, using the wrong tools or planting too soon? Not sure? Ace Hardware has come up with the five most common gardening mistakes and remedies to help you love your garden just enough:
UWrong tools. For planting flowers or digging small holes, buy a spade or garden trowel, or get a claw-like tool to loosen soil. For planting shrubs or small trees, pick up a shovel with a rounded point and long fiberglass handle.
USpring pruning. Check with your local garden center about which plants should be pruned in the fall. Pruning at the wrong time can damage the plant and invite disease. So put your shears down and step away from the plant, at least until the time is right.
UIll-timed reseeding. The best time for reseeding is in early spring, when it's warm and the chances for frost have passed. Remember to rake your lawn first to remove dead grass and debris.
UOverwatering. It's true what they say about too much of a good thing. Too much water may encourage fungi and weed growth. Give your greenery roughly 2 inches of water each week.
UPlanting too soon. Wait until temperatures are above freezing for planting trees and shrubs. Wait until soil temperatures hover in the 50-degree range in the spring before sowing seeds for a vegetable garden.
Sit down -- you'reamong friends
Friends don't let friends design recliners. Otherwise, fans might get the impression that their favorite stars on their favorite sitcom had better stick to acting.
Starting Monday through May 22, six custom one-of-a-kind recliners for La-Z-Boy designed by (or at least named for) NBC's longtime "Friends" will be up for auction on eBay. The chairs supposedly reflect the personality of their onstage characters.
Matt LeBlanc's extra-wide black leather model is perfect for serious lounging. Lisa Kudrow's argyle-patterned recliner with hand stitching recalls Phoebe's kooky fashion sense.
But why does the chair designed for David Schwimmer as Ross in white, yellow, orange and teal leather look like an exploded beach ball?
And the two wide arcs on Jennifer Aniston's model, named for tiny Rachel, make the chair so big it would take up most of a New York apartment.
Starting bids for each chair will be $500. The event is co-sponsored by In Style magazine, and proceeds will go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. For more details, click on www.ebay.com or www.lazboy.com.
