NILES Relay for Life benefit set for this weekend
NILES -- The Niles Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society will feature a number of events, including live music and a dunking booth.
The relay, set for Friday and Saturday at McKinely High School, kicks off with a survivors' lap at 6 p.m. Friday.
The relay continues throughout the night and next day with live music provided by the Cortland Community Band, Fever Dogs, Rising Sun Entertainment and Productions, Star Fire and Big Daddy Burl.
Other events include a luminary ceremony and fireworks show at 9 p.m. Friday, a best team T-shirt contest at 11 p.m. Friday, talent show at 9 a.m. Saturday, children's games from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and closing ceremonies from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday with the final ceremonial team lap at 6.
A dunking booth will feature local business people and school and city employees.
There also will be a boccie tournament from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Game tickets, gift baskets and other items will be raffled throughout the event.
Each team in the relay is asked to raise a minimum of $1,000.
Trumbull County had four relays in 2002, which combined for a total of $771,000 in donations.
