YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Adam Baumann and sophomore Doug Underwood were named co-Most Valuable Players at the team awards banquet Sunday.
Underwood averaged a team-best 14.7 points per game, while Baumann led the team in rebounds (7.7).
Underwood was also given the Jeff Covington Leading Scorer award.
Baumann was also presented with the Four Square Club Scholar Athlete and Leo Mogus Leading Rebounder awards.
Senior captain Marlon Williams picked up the assists leader award with 144. He also set the school single-season record with 64 steals and led the Horizon League average 2.2 steals per game.
Junior Tejay Anderson was named the Most Productive Player averaging 8.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
Sophomore Khari McQueen earned the Penguin Club Most Improved Player award, while freshmen Jonathan Mends was given the Tony Vivo Hustle; Derrick Harris, the Bill Dailey Leadership, and Andy Jahnke, Coaches award.
Williamson earned a fourth-year award; Baumann, Janel Porter, Bill Mallernee and Anderson, three year; Underwood, Radakovich and McQueen, two year and Jahnke, Mends and Harris, first year awards.
Track and field
COLUMBUS -- Sophomore Nick Smith finished second in the 1,500-meters with a time of 3 minutes, 58.11 seconds, at the Jesse Owens Track Classic.
Also in the 1,500, Nick Kruse finished sixth (4:00.80) while Nick Buzek was 15th.
Alvin Shavers finished tenth in the 110 hurdles (16.24) and 13th in the 400 hurdles (1:00.08), and Ryan Stzalka was 13th in the 200 (22.28).
Mike DeToro placed 11th in the javelin (142 feet, 1 inch) while Joseph Bruderly finished 14th in the shot put (48-02 3/4).
Alex Casi led the women with an 11th-place (12.85) in the 100 and a 20th-place in the 200.
Katy Williams was 21st in the discus and Danielle Sexton was 26th in the hammer.
The Horizon League Championships are Thursday in Indianapolis.
Soccer
YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior Kara White will be a participant at the 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., May 25-29 at the Coronado Springs Resort and Walt Disney World Sports Complex.
White will be among 273 student-athletes to take part in the conference.
LOCAL
Mooney loses 11-5
STRUTHERS -- Western Reserve Academy, behind 4-2, scored five runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth as it defeated Mooney 11-5 Saturday night at Cene Park.
Brian Drummond went 3-for-3 for the Cardinals, which included a double.
Joe Dempsey led Western Reserve Academy with a double and he drove in three runs.
Clark wins decision
COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. -- Lightweight Michael Clark won a 12-round split decision over Steve Quinonez to win the NABF lightweight title Sunday at Trump 29 Casino.
Clark, from Columbus, is co-managed by Lou Schiavoni of Boardman and Pat Nelson of Youngstown.
One judge voted 116-112 for Quinonez (28-7) and the other two judges voted for Clark 115-113 to give the Ohio boxer his first title.

Silas fired
NEW ORLEANS -- Paul Silas was fired as coach of the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday after five seasons.
The Hornets went 47-35 this season, finishing third in the Central Division. They were knocked out of the playoffs Friday night, eliminated in the first round in six games by the Philadelphia 76ers.
Duncan is MVP
SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Duncan edged the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett to win the NBA's MVP award for the second straight season Sunday.
Duncan is the eighth player to win back-to-back MVP awards.
Lugo out
HOUSTON -- Houston Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker said Sunday the team either will trade shortstop Julio Lugo or place him on waivers in the coming days.
