School in its last year to hold open house
SEBRING -- Maple Ridge Elementary School in the West Branch Local School District will have an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. May 17 to commemorate the school's history.
The school is at 13555 Bandy Road in Smith Township and opened in 1925.
Pupils in the Maple Ridge area will attend the new Beloit Elementary School adjacent to the high school when it opens in November, and Maple Ridge will be razed.
Principal James Turner said that the public is invited to attend the "Salute to Maple Ridge."
Teachers Frank and Tonia Edie will give a Power Point presentation on the history of the school.
Library aide Megan Woods and special education teacher Heidi Shreve have put together a booklet of all staff members since 1925.
Gladys Ritchie, a student in 1934 who went on to become a full-time cook at the school and who has celebrated the school's 25th, 50th, and 75th anniversaries, will be present for the event.
Turner said there will be bulletin boards, displays and pictures. Memorabilia will also be available to purchase, and refreshments will be available.
