PREP TRACK City Series, Trumbull meets this week
On Tuesday, the city meet is at Chaney and the Trumbull meet is at Lakeview.
Several important track and field meets will be held this week, starting with the City Series meet at Chaney High Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Also Tuesday, the ninth Trumbull County meet gets underway at 4 p.m. at Lakeview High. Finals will be Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Rayen School boys and girls are defending City Series champs.
Eddie Fetuah of Woodrow Wilson is the boys defending 200 and 400 champ and Ken Adams of the Redmen will defend in the 100.
Cameron Widget of Chaney is the favorite in the high jump and long jump.
Jonise Hartsfield of Chaney will defend four titles: the 100 and 200 dashes and 100 and 300 hurdles.
Rayen's Erica Wilson will defend her high jump and long jump crowns.
Trumbull
Sophomore Jen Grayson of Maplewood, the 2002 Trumbull County MVP, will defend in both hurdles and high jump titles.
Maplewood won the girls crown last year, while Warren Harding took the boys title.
The girls 100 hurdles race has four of the area's top performers: LaBrae's Lauren Kreft, Hubbard's Sarah Crafton, Grayson and Brookfield's Kaitlyn Nasci.
Liberty senior Jessica White, the 2002 running MVP, is the defending 100 champ, but seven of the eight finalists from last year are back. Girard's Cachet Murray (12.0) is the athlete to beat.
George Fetchko (174-5) and teammate Matt Zakrajsek (163-5) give Howland the edge in the discus, while George Washko (53-11 3/4) is the athlete to beat in the shot put. He'll be tested by Champion's Steve Buckholder and Niles' Don Fridley.
In the boys 100, Brookfield's Lou Scudere (10.8), Warren JFK's Shane Golden (10.9) and Howland's Anthony Jefferson (10.9) and Willie Davis (10.9) will be featured.
