Women's softballat McCune is a treat
It was a treat with a few extras to watch the YSU softball games against Loyola at McCune Field.
These college girls have updated and upgraded their game and it, nowadays, starts when they arrive on the field. It's on a move; pregame practice, between innings, etc. Everyone is active in a sort of military cadence, no "shag-a-longs", quick steps- (left-right) -- "Moving on down"-- with some bouncy music in rhythm.
To you baseball smarts who have a passion to decipher, or steal, the signs (bunt, hit-run, steal, take the pitch, etc), forget it when it comes to that YSU gal in the coaching box -- she's sly, quick and fast -- "She's a Fox".
Try it. Admission is free with a complete scorecard at McCune Field.

BASKETBALL
Harry Lay tournamentwas a success
The 24th annual Harry M. Lay boys and Girls 5th-6th tournament sponsored by the Jackson-Milton Hot Stove Baseball Association was a tremendous success.
Thanks go out to the 44 teams throughout several counties in northeast Ohio who participated. The tournament encourages the participation in basketball for fun and teaching the fundamentals of the game. Harry M. Lay was a devoted man who wanted to watch all kids grow and develop within a sport, to learn good values as they matured in life.
Jackson-Milton Hot Stove would like to extend their thanks to all the individuals who volunteered their time to concessions, door, scoreboard, clean-up and refereeing the games. Over the years, it has developed into the premier youth basketball tournament in the area. Several people volunteer a lot of time to help the baseball association with their largest fund-raiser of the year.
The tournament winners from this year include, in the girls open division, Canfield with the Lady Cougars of Salem as runner-up. In the girls invitational, Garfield defeated Mathews. The boys open division champ this year was Alliance as they defeated Windham. The boys invitational winner had Sebring defeating Jackson-Milton. The tournament honors one individual girl and boy with the Harry M. Lay award. These student-athletes earn this award by demonstrating good skills and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. This year's winners are Katie Griswold from Canfield and Eddie Householder from Jackson-Milton. Scholastic trophies also honored 23 athletes with straight A's.
The monies generated from the tournament help offset the individual participation in the baseball and basketball programs in the Jackson-Milton communities along with purchasing new equipment and maintaining ball fields. We give special thanks for everyone involved.
