Liquor in New Wilmington
Some facts about the liquor referendum on the May 20 ballot:
There is one voting precinct in New Wilmington.
The population of New Wilmington is 2,452, including 1,350 Westminster College students.
There are 1,011 registered voters eligible for the May 20 election, compared with 907 in November 2002.
Voters will be asked to check "yes" or "no" to the question "Do you favor the granting of liquor licenses for the sale of liquor in New Wilmington borough?"
If the liquor referendum passes, one new license would be available in the borough. The transfer of existing liquor licenses into the borough would be possible but would have to be approved by borough council.
Westminster College students also attempted a liquor referendum in 1981. The attempt failed when the students were unable to secure enough signatures of registered voters to place the question before voters
