Penn State Shenango business students will host a car cruise from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the campus. The community is invited to join the festivities, which will include food booths, raffles and activities for children. Those who have classic, antique or "bad" cars, trucks or motorcycles are invited to show them off at this event. There is no registration fee. Donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to Penn State Shenango scholarships.
Hamming it up
On the air, amateur radio operators are all business, strictly adhering to Federal Communications Corporation regulations. Off the air, however, Carl Sacherich and Seymour "Cy" Cohen of New Castle showed why amateur radio operators are called hams. They had a little fun with a recent off-air demonstration of the equipment at the Red Cross office. "I'm gonna put the mike in this hand so you can get a good picture of me," Cohen said as a Vindicator photographer snapped pictures. "I want an 11 x 14 of this, and some wallets." Cohen shot off one-liners one after another, concluding with, "Oh Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up now."
After explaining how the ham operators communicate in emergency situations, Sacherich took up the dead mike and "called" Cohen. "Cy, we have a very desperate situation here," Sacherich deadpanned. "This is an emergency. We are out of donuts."
