TENNIS Kamperman named USTA chief executive
The former Youngstown State standout will head up Community Tennis.
Youngstown State graduate Kurt Kamperman was named Chief Executive, Community Tennis, United States Tennis Association on April 8, 2003.
Kamperman will lead the USTA's effort to increase tennis participation in communities across the U.S.
He will oversee all activities, initiatives and programs in the seven USTA Community Tennis Departments: Community Outreach & amp; Multicultural Participation; Community Tennis Competitive Programs; Community Tennis Programs; Section & amp; Volunteer Support; TennisLink; and USTA SERV.
Kamperman, president of the Tennis Industry Association (TIA), served as director at large on the USTA Board of Directors from January to April.
He was board liaison to the Community Player Division and chaired the board's USA Tennis Plan for Growth Steering Committee.
Kamperman joined the TIA, a not-for-profit association of tennis-related manufacturers and organizations, in 1996.
Prior to joining the TIA, Kamperman was the director of tennis at Sea Pines Resort, which was selected by Tennis Magazine as "America's #1 Tennis Resort" during his tenure.
Active for over 25 years
Active in the tennis industry for more than 25 years, Kamperman's expertise spans a broad spectrum of tennis and business fields.
During his tennis career, he has served as club manager, tournament director for nationally televised tennis events (Corel Champions, World Couples), and designer of numerous world-class tennis facilities.
As a tennis management and marketing consultant, Kamperman has worked with dozens of top clubs, resorts, and management companies, where he consistently helped to increase revenues and improve the bottom line.
Kamperman graduated from Youngstown State University with a B.S. in Education.
A four-year scholarship player, he was coach at YSU while attending graduate school and was named Conference Coach of the Year in 1981.
A member of the USPTA (President, 1996-1997) and PTR, Kamperman is a longtime USTA volunteer and has served on a variety of national committees, including the USA Tennis Plan for Growth Steering Committee, Tennis Innovation, and Professional Circuits.
Kamperman resides on Hilton Head Island, S.C., with his wife, Carrie, and their two daughters.
