CANFIELD -- Megan Turocy fired her ninth shutout of the season to tame Akron Hoban, the number nine Division II team in this week's Ohio softball coaches poll.
Turocy (13-3) struck out five batters for the Cardinals (18-6).
Canfield took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jenn DiGiantonio walked and reached third base on a throwing error. Stephanie Mistovich singled her home with the game's only run.
Whitney Zunic had two hits for Canfield and Elizabeth Brown doubled.
In the first game of Friday's doubleheader, Hoban won 1-0 in 10 innings.
Winning pitcher Michelle Loy limited Canfield to four hits. Kate Bender had the game-winning RBI.
Canfield pitcher Lindsay Yosay (5-3) tossed nine shutout innings and gave up one extra-base hit, a double by Bender.
