PREP BASEBALL Ford's homer beats Chaney
John Hay of Poland flirted with a no-hitter against Cardinal Mooney.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dan Ford hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning as the Boardman High baseball team beat Chaney 12-11 Thursday.
Chaney (16-4) led 5-2 after one inning and scored three times in the fifth to knot it at 10-all.
The Cowboys led 11-10 entering the seventh.
Andy Good homered, Nate Tacsik tripled and Brad Beck doubled for the Spartans (12-8).
Mike Deniro homered, Adam Boris tripled and Chris Hlinka and Dan Balog doubled for Chaney.
Poland 8, Mooney 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- John Hay (4-0) pitched a one-hitter, with eight strikeouts, for the Bulldogs (17-2).
Jeff Hehr of the Cardinals (9-7) spoiled the no-hit bid by Hay when he singled in the sixth inning.
John Koval of the Bulldogs hit a double and two singles, while Adam Wigley and Rick DiMucio each had two hits.
Niles 9, Campbell 6
CAMPBELL -- A.J. Ruberto and Mike Conroy hit triples and Conroy and Mike Ruscetti had doubles for the Red Dragons (11-9).
Mark Such and Tony Rossadivita doubled for the Red Devils (10-6).
Campbell (10-5-1) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning after trailing 6-0 in the fifth.
Salem 5, East Liverpool 4
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Jarin Heath had three hits and scored twice for Salem, which scored three runs in the first inning.
Grant Sevek added three hits and a run for the Quakers (9-12).
Andre Dawson had a three-run homer for East Liverpool (5-16).
Warren JFK 14, Liberty 7
LIBERTY -- Mike Witherow had three hits and five other players had two hits to lead Kennedy (17-8).
Kurt Weaver had two doubles and Ryan Monte, Mike Lepro, Steve Orlosky, Allen Hoover each added two hits for the Eagles.
Pitcher Mike Ellis (6-0) homered and got the win.
For Liberty (4-9-1), Mike Smallwood and Fred Batista had home runs and Joe Lopez added two hits, including a double.
Crestview 18, Southern 3
SALINEVILLE -- Jason Beachler had two hits and scored four times for the Rebels (11-10, 9-4 Tri-County League).
Andrew Neiheisel drove in four runs for the Rebels who scored nine runs in the seventh.
