BOSTON -- Paul Pierce had 27 points and eight rebounds and Antoine Walker scored 21 points as Boston advanced for the second straight year. Jermaine O'Neal had 25 points and 19 rebounds for the Pacers, who couldn't make it out of the first round for the third consecutive season, losing this time in six games. Indiana trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half. O'Neal was ejected with 3 minutes, 25 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, along with Boston's Mark Blount, for a minor altercation.
Nets 113, Bucks 101
MILWAUKEE -- Kenyon Martin scored 29 points and Jason Kidd had a triple-double as New Jersey, the reigning Eastern Conference champions, closed out the first-round series in six games. Kidd had 22 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds as the Nets advanced to the second round, where they'll play Boston beginning Monday night. Gary Payton had 24 points for the Bucks, who trailed by as many as 22. They were down 88-70 heading into the fourth quarter, and the best they could do was cut their deficit in half -- 99-90 on a basket by Payton with 5 1/2 minutes remaining. Martin had 27 points in the first three quarters.
Spurs 87, Suns 85
PHOENIX -- Tim Duncan shot just 4-of-12 for 15 points, but had 20 rebounds and 10 assists for his second career playoff triple-double. The West's No. 1 seed dispensed of the Suns 4-2 and will play the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round. Stephen Jackson, playing with a strained tendon in his lower right leg, added 19 points -- nine in the fourth quarter. He was 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Tony Parker added 17 points, and Manu Ginobili scored 12 by going on 4-of-7 3-pointers -- a pair of them coming in a 12-2 surge that put San Antonio ahead for good midway through the fourth quarter. Shawn Marion had 24 points and 15 rebounds for Phoenix, but his only points of the fourth quarter came on a 3-point bank shot with 4.4 seconds to play and another 3 as the game ended.
Lakers 101, Timberwolves 85
LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant scored 14 of his 31 points in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, and Shaquille O'Neal had 24 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists. The three-time defending champion Lakers have won 13 straight playoff series under Phil Jackson, and Jackson-coached teams have won an NBA record 25 consecutive series. Derek Fisher scored 16 points, Devean George added 12 points and eight rebounds and Robert Horry had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Kevin Garnett had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Troy Hudson also had 18 points for the Timberwolves. Bryant outscored the Timberwolves 10-2 by himself to start the final period, shooting 5-of-5, and Devean George added four points to make it 83-65 with 8:19 remaining. Another basket by Bryant and two free throws by O'Neal made it 87-65 with 7:04 to play.
