Ricciardi setsstate record
BERLIN CENTER -- Anna Marie Ricciardi, a Western Reserve High senior, set a Division III state, meet and school high jump record as she cleared 5 feet, 9 inches Thursday at the Western Reserve relays.
She broke the old mark, 5-8, set by Pam Deaton of New Paris National Trail in 1985.
Upon receipt of proper documentation in Columbus, the record should get approval at the state level.
Scrappers coach
NILES -- The Cleveland Indians named Greg Hibbard pitching coach for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
Hibbard, 39, was 57-50 with a 4.05 ERA in 165 outings from 1989-94 with the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners. He went 15-11 for the Cubs in 1993 in 31 games.
The opening with the Scrappers was necessitated after Ken Rowe left the organization.
Warfield to autograph
CANTON -- Two members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame -- Tom Mack and Paul Warfield -- will be the first of eight guests to participate in the 2003 edition of the Hall's annual Best of Yesterday and Today autograph sessions.
The sessions will be held on four consecutive Saturdays, beginning this Saturday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Call (330) 456-8207 for details.
Rispinto to attendBaldwin-Wallace
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Dave Rispinto, a standout guard on the Springfield High basketball team, will attend Baldwin-Wallace College.
Rispinto led the Inter-County League in assists (7.0) averaging 13 points and three steals. He was named the ICL Player of the Year.
Rispinto also is an outstanding student with a 4.0 grade-point average, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Cavs aide namedat N. Carolina A & amp;T
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Jerry Eaves, an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers, was hired as the men's basketball coach at North Carolina A & amp;T.
Eaves, a guard on Louisville's 1980 national championship team, replaces Curtis Hunter, a former North Carolina player who went 28-70 record in four seasons.
Eaves was also an NBA assistant with New Jersey and Charlotte.
Indians promote Elder
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians brought up Dave Elder on Thursday following the right-hander's strong start this season in the minor leagues.
Browns camp out
BEREA -- Browns rookies get their first chance to impress their new team when they take part in a three-day minicamp starting today.
The camp, which includes two practices on Saturday and one on Sunday, is for rookies only and is not open to the public.
Aeros win
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Victor Valencia homered on the first pitch of the 10th inning to give the Akron Aeros a 2-1 win over the New Britain Rock Cats on Thursday night in the Eastern League.
Pitt names coach
PITTSBURGH -- Agnus Berenato, Georgia Tech's head coach for 15 years, was named the new women's basketball coach at Pittsburgh.
Berenato replaces Traci Waites, who was fired in March after a 53-85 record with three consecutive losing seasons and four in five.

NBA draft
Texas' T.J. Ford and Marquette's Dwyane Wade, the only underclassmen on this year's All-America team, will both apply for the NBA draft.
Their decisions came Thursday, as did Washington State junior guard Marcus Moore's. The three joined Syracuse freshman Carmelo Anthony and juniors Mario Austin (Mississippi State), Chris Kaman (Central Michigan) and Luke Ridnour (Oregon).
The draft is June 26.
Johnson has surgery
PHOENIX -- Four-time NL Cy Young Award winner Randy Johnson underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery, his first operation in seven years.
