Niles man facescharge of stalking
NILES -- A city man with no criminal history faces a felony charge of stalking.
Richard P. Marburger, 47, of Belle Terre Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday in municipal court. He is accused of following a 14-year-old boy to and from school and trying to get him into his van.
According to reports, the boy went Wednesday to Robert Marino, principal of Edison Junior High School, and told him a man in a blue van had been following him each morning and afternoon since Monday. Wednesday morning the man stopped and tried to persuade him to get in the van.
Reports do not indicate if Marburger had any physical contact with the boy.
Marino said the boy gave police the license plate number of the van.
Police followed the boy home from school in unmarked cars and saw Marburger drive past three times, stopping twice to talk to the boy.
Marburger, who is free on $5,000 bond, is scheduled to appear May 7 for a preliminary hearing.
Marino said school officials routinely talk to pupils about being aware of their surroundings, especially if they walk to school.
Shots fired in Warren
WARREN -- More than 30 shots were fired between passengers of two cars Wednesday night.
Police Chief John Mandopoulos said gunshots were exchanged around 8 p.m. as the cars traveled on several southwest residential streets, including Oak, Parkman and Maple.
No one was injured.
Police are in the process of filing charges.
"We have to sort through all the information," the chief said.
Mandopoulos and Fred Harris, safety-service director, said officers did excellent work on the case.
"There were many children playing on the streets and our officers were able to stop the vehicles involved before anyone got hurt," the chief said.

His wife is free on bond, while Mack is scheduled to appear in municipal court next week.
Warren woman pleadsguilty to bank fraud
CLEVELAND -- Anita Marie Davis, 43, of Beal Street N.W., Warren, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cleveland to one count of bank fraud.
A federal indictment accused Davis of scheming to defraud Bank One of money, securities and other assets as the court-appointed guardian of a child in Trumbull County.
As such, she was authorized by Trumbull County Probate Court to be paid at a rate of $25 per hour up to a maximum of 25 hours per month on behalf of the child.
The indictment said that after failing to obtain approval to increase her compensation to 40 hours per week, Davis falsified a document authorizing payment to her of $1,000 a week from Bank One, which handled the assets.
The government said Davis received about $27,000 between Sept. 21, 2000, and April 25, 2001.
She is to be sentenced July 8 and faces up to 30 years in prison.
