DOM LEONE WRITING
Nearly 700 entries were submitted to the 2003 Dom Leone Writing Competition involving Youngstown City Schools and the Youngstown Diocesan Schools in Mahoning County, established by the Youngstown Writers Group and named after a Youngstown native who died of cancer in 1989. Students participated in cartoon, short fiction, poetry and song lyrics categories.

LAW DAY
The Mahoning County Bar Association hosted Law Day Essay and Photo/Poster Contests.
Essay winners: Rick Nelson of Struthers High School, 1st place, $500; Brian Pfau of Canfield High School, 2nd place, $300; Marty Mayer of Western Reserve High School, 3rd place, $200.Photo/Poster winners: Bill Klase, 1st place in 11th/12th-grade category, $150; Deeksha Bansal, 2nd place in 11th/12th-grade; Renne Baird 9th/10th-grade winner, $100; Jaclyn Sisk, 9th/10th-grade winner, $75; Matthew Liptak, 1st place in 7th/8th-grade, $75; and Randi Yazvac, 2nd place in 7th/8th-grade, $50. High school winners are all Boardman High School students. Middle school winners both attend Boardman Glenwood Middle School.
ART SHOW
A student art show was featured at the recent Art Canning Foundation Benefit Dinner.
