WESTMINSTER COLLEGE, New Wilmington, Pa.
Senior chemistry major Amanda Fond of Hubbard won the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh's College Chemistry Award for performance and high achievement in chemistry. The Hubbard High School graduate is the daughter of Vincent and Renee Fond.
DENISON UNIVERSITY, Granville
Sophomore theater performance major Elena Perantoni of Canfield played the role of a chorus member and stage girl in a Jingju Chinese-opera adaptation of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew." The Canfield High School graduate is the daughter of Cynthia Perantoni and John Perantoni, both of Canfield
CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY, Williamsburg, Ky.
Korey Howard of Youngstown recently starred in the college's production of the mystery-adventure play, "The Death and Life of Sherlock Holmes" by Suzan Zeder. Howard, son of Henry and Barbara Stevens, portrayed Holmes' assistant, Dr. John Watson.
OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
The Fisher College of Business recently announced Pace Setter award recipients. Students selected for this honor are in the top 2 percent of their class.
Local graduate and doctoral candidates inducted are Lisa Merz Russell, of East Palestine, a Master of Labor and Human Resources (MLHR) candidate; and Kimberly Stargell, of Southington, an MBA majoring in marketing with a real-estate minor.
Among undergraduates inducted is Tara M. Magusiak of Canfield, a senior majoring in accounting and daughter of Evelyn McCabe.
MALONE COLLEGE, Canton
Lonette Clinkscale of Boardman and Kristy Fullerman of Canfield are among the 10 members of the forensics and debate team to rank second at the National Christian College Forensics Invitational Tournament in San Diego.
Clinksale also placed fifth as part of a pair competing in the dramatic-duo competition and brought the team the most sweepstakes points by winning second in both prose and poetry and third in programmed oral interpretation; she was a finalist in each category she entered.
OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY, Ada
Jennifer Keil of East Liverpool is among six seniors from an international accounting class who presented their work at the Ohio American Accounting Association's 2003 Annual Meeting. They presented the results of their study of the ICICI Bank Ltd. case, using the 1997 Korean banking crisis as its backdrop, to professors at the conference.
ASHLAND UNIVERSITY
Junior mathematics major Paul Carmany of New Middletown was recognized by the mathematics/computer science department at a university honors convocation. He is the son of James and Wanda Carmany.
Each department gives one award per each upper-class level.
MOUNT UNION COLLEGE, Alliance
Local students were among those recognized for service in the Dowling Mentor Program at the college. Serving one year are Melissa Behr of New Castle, Pa., Beth Evans of Boardman and Anthony Jones of Youngstown. Serving two years are Kim Bertleff of Cortland and Nicole Yanik of Masury. Serving three years are Trina McKelley of Youngstown, Allyson Shultz of Salem and Jason Weingart of Salem.
SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY, Pa.
Several local students are among the top 20 sophomores, juniors and seniors honored as the university's Presidential Scholars.
