ABWA Warren chapter celebrates anniversary, honors associate



Three charter members also received recognition.
WARREN -- The 46th anniversary of the founding of the Warren Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association was celebrated April 1 during a meeting held at the Golden Gate Restaurant.
Singled out for recognition during the event were charter members Elizabeth Liby, Grace Penn and Helen Locke. Also recognized for years of membership were Jane Guerriero, for 43 years; Carol Alex and Ruby Hawkins, 29; and Letha Marsh and Doris Day, 25.
Award
A highlight of the evening was the introduction of Wanda Hughes as the chapter's 2003 Business Associate of the Year. She was presented with a trophy by Todd Herron, past business associate.
Hughes, also the chapter's 2000 Woman of the Year, has served as chairman of the fund-raising, program and publicity committees and is a delegate to ABWA Network Council. She has attended spring conferences in Youngstown and Indianapolis and is registered to attend the conference in Akron.
She has been a licensed hearing instrument specialist for 22 years and has been the owner of the Hearing Aid Center of Ohio in Howland for 5 years.
Hughes is a member of the Better Business Bureau, Girard Chamber of Commerce, Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber, Ohio Hearing Aid Society, Rebekah Lodge of Warren, Austintown Garden Club, National Federation of Independent Businesses, Warren Genealogical Society and Youngstown Baptist Church. She is a delegate to Garden Club of Ohio, a member of the Ohio State Garden Club, a leader of TOPS 1497 in Austintown and a committee chairman for the 75th Anniversary State Convention.
Hughes and her husband, Alan, have three children, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Entertainment was presented by Gary Morton, a magician.
