The city's board of control approved these spending items and contracts on Thursday:
A contract not to exceed $144,000 with Malcolm Pirnie Inc., Akron, for consulting services for improvements at the sewer plant.
A contract not to exceed $56,000 with Metcalf and Eddy Inc. to provide consulting services for sewer incinerator repairs.
Severance of $1,064 for Stephen Herschel, a firefighter who retired Feb. 28.
Severance of $1,534 for Dennis Wiser, a sewer plant operator who retired on disability March 18.
A $1,855 technical assistance grant for Terence Gamble and Zakir Baraka to buy fire training equipment.
A $1,400 to $3,000 letter of credit for a performance bond to Myers Improvements for work on the Meadowbrook sewer pump station.
An agreement with Struthers to treat sewer overflows from the Meadowbrook pumping station from June 2003 to June 2006.
